Lake County’s unemployment rate has zigzagged again, this time for the better.
After increasing in July to 5 percent, up from 4.8 percent the previous month, the rate dropped again in August.
It now stands at 4.7 percent, according to figures released this morning by CareerSource Central Florida. That’s markedly better compared to a year ago, when joblessness stood at 5.5 percent, figures show.
The improving trend carried through in nearby counties as well.
Sumter’s rate fell from 7.1 percent in July to 6.7 percent in August. Others include Marion, 5.9 percent (6.2 percent); Orange, 4.3 percent (4.5 percent); Osceola, 5 percent (5.2 percent); Seminole, 4.2 percent (4.5 percent); and Volusia, 5 percent (5.3 percent).
