Construction update: Skyplex site work underway

Construction update: Skyplex site work underway

by DeVore Design, September 27, 2016

Engineering crews are getting the future site of the $460 million Skyplex project ready to go.

Crews have begun boring the dirt and preparing for the steps toward laying down its future foundation. Boring is done to help determine what type of foundation is needed for building.

Skyplex developer Joshua Wallack previously told Orlando Business Journal the concrete foundation is scheduled to be poured in the first quarter and this activity fits right in line with that estimate.

Currently, Winter Park engineering firm Terracon Consultants is on site, said Wallack. “They are all over the site now — at the 7-Eleven and Fun N Wheels,” he wrote in an emailed response.

The Skyplex complex will be anchored by the planned 501-foot Skyscraper polercoaster, the 450-foot Skyfall drop tower, a 600-foot Skyfly zip line, the Skysurf park and a 350-room hotel, all built in and around the SkyPlaza retail, entertainment and dining center. The project is expected to open in 2019.

Orlando’s $60 billion tourism industry welcomes 66 million visitors annually.
