Lake schools will make up hours lost to Hermine with longer Wednesdays

Lake schools will make up hours lost to Hermine with longer Wednesdays

by DeVore Design, September 23, 2016

Lake County students will not be dismissed early on five Wednesday afternoons to make up for the school day canceled as Hurricane Hermine hit Florida.

Like most local school districts, Lake typically dismisses students an hour early on Wednesdays.

But from Oct. 5 through Nov. 2, the Wednesday school day will be a regular one to make up for the hours lost on Sept. 2, the Lake County School Board decided Monday.

Lake schools decided to close because of bad road conditions in the county early that morning.

The district had “storm make-up days” built into its calendar, but they were the week of Thanksgiving.

The district decided holding longer days on five Wednesdays would be less disruptive to families than taking away time off during a holiday week.

Regular Wednesday dismissal will start again on Nov. 9.
