First-Time Home Buyers Lead the Charge in Finding their Eventual Home Online

First-Time Home Buyers Lead the Charge in Finding their Eventual Home Online

by DeVore Design, August 14, 2015

It’s no surprise that more people now than ever before are flocking to Internet resources to find their dream home. After all, it’s easy to check out sites like realtor.com® to learn about a home’s characteristics, view photos, see the property’s history and obtain information about the area. And while more first-time and repeat home buyers used the Internet to find the home that they eventually purchased, first-time buyers are leading that charge. According to an infographic released by the National Association of REALTORS®, first-time home buyers’ use of the internet to first find the home they bought grew 13 percent in the last five years, from 35 percent in 2008 to 48 percent in 2013. For repeat buyers, that number has grown at a slower pace, from 31 percent in 2008 to 40 percent in 2013. While all other ways of first finding the home one will buy, including yard/open house signs, newspaper ads, etc., is trending downward as Internet usage increases, more first-time buyers had success finding their eventual home from one other source: in 2012, 33 percent reported that they first found the home they purchased from a REALTOR®, and one year later, that number was 34 percent.
